  • Review of BSAC Snorkelling Instructor Course: Feb 2012

    On Saturday 18th February I joined a very pleasant, interesting bunch of peers for a two day Snorkel Instructor’s Course run by BSAC. For a weekend – it was an early start but everyone was in good spirits in anticipation of what we hoped would be an exciting, informative weekend.

    As a diver I was surprised and pleased to see that the majority of my fellow students were also divers who, like me, recognised the importance of good snorkelling skills and how snorkelling can encourage future members to BSAC – both snorkellers and divers.

  • Advanced Snorkel Lifesaver Award

    Saturday 7th April 2012

    Oxford BSAC are hosting an advanced snorkel lifesaver course on Saturday 7th April 2012.

    The course is a mixture of classroom lessons in the clubhouse and open water lessons in Hinksey Lake.

    It will run from 9am to 5pm, cost £25 per person.

    Four instructor trainers, headed by Marg Baldwin, spent 2 days putting 12 potential snorkel instructors through their paces.

  • Snorkel Instructors Training Course

    18th and 19th February 2012

    This is a two day course with both practical and theory sessions.

    The practical sessions will take place at Westminster College just outside Oxford and the theory sessions will be held at our clubhouse off the Abingdon Road, Oxford.

    The course is open to snorkel divers or equivalent, aged 16 years and over, who are BSAC members.

  • Lundy Island 2nd October 2011

    We couldn’t have wished for more perfect weather. As the 11 of us gathered on the harbour side at 10am ready to meet Ian the skipper of Obsession I, the sun was just burning away the last remaining clouds and mist. Obsession I is a Procharter P3, 40 foot long charter boat that works out of Ilfracombe harbour. Skippered by Ian and helped by his son Dominic we couldn’t have been in better hands.

    We arrived at Kimmeridge Bay around midday. For the first time this year the slip way was clear of the usual queue of RIB’s, canoes and other small boats waiting to launch or be retrieved.Kimmeridge bay have just completed an update with new toilet and shower facilities!     Meet on Lulworth Beach, Dorset, at 1pm where we will be picked up by Naiad to snorkel dive around Stair Hole. Have a play and chat on the beach while waiting your turn. Each snorkel dive from Naiad costs £5.

    Fish and chips on the beach around 5pm

    Night snorkel dive, for those who dare, on Lulworth beach starting at 6.30pm.

  • BSAC New Snorkeling Courses Update

    BSAC is set to launch its updated Snorkel Training Programme for branches.

    Bringing all the training materials up-to-date, with new training packs, Instructor Manual and resources, the BSAC Snorkel Training Programme will enable even more of our clubs to provide snorkel training and bring more young people and families into BSAC.
