On Wednesday 9th of July I attended the BSAC presidency handover in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles and HRH The Duke of Cambridge, Prince William. I was given this great opportunity to represent my club, Oxford BSAC (British Sub Aqua Club) and promote snorkelling. (more…)

Kimmeridge Snorkel and Beachcomber Trip Report June 2014
Saturday 21st June 2014 was a glorious day, just perfect for snorkelling. With high tide due just after lunch, it meant a leisurely start with everyone meeting on the beach at Kimmeridge around 11.30am. While lunch was being eaten I talked the snorkellers through their first advanced theory lesson, touching on risk asessement. Getting the snorkellers, especially those new to open water to talk about what is invloved in doing a risk assessment is the best way to make them think about their conduct and actions in and around the water. Swanage Snorkel Trip and BSAC 60th Celebrations

Snorkel Trip to Penzance 29th and 30th June
Successful trip to Penzance to snorkel with basking sharks.
Long journey but well worth the trip, hoping to repeat next year. After a long search we found the basking sharks not easy in 2m high waves.
Lovely time watching the seals as well.

Oxford BSAC – Kimmeridge July 2013
Kimmeridge in Dorset is a fantastic place for a snorkel novices first ever taste of open water and certainly a favourite with the Oxford snorkelling team.

The Beachcomber Course
Oxford Snorkellers 6th – 7th July Kimmeridge, Dorset
The idea was to make the day at Kimmeridge a family day out, so that all of the people attending, especially those not snorkelling, were involved. The tide was out around midday and armed with the beachcomber packs, identification books and nets we headed in to the rockpools and shallow water around The Flats. Immediately there were squeals of ‘come and look at this’, ‘come and take a photo’. Very quickly we spotted small wrasse, dragonets, shrimps, limpets (which were boring, apparently) and tiny crabs. -
