For a completed DORY Hull, we paid £2600 and a further £765 for a trailer. After adding various bits and bobs like rubber fenders, storage locker doors, deck fittings, compass, instruments, fuel tanks and the like we’d spent £5133. An Engine and remote comes to about £1800 so final total is looking like about £7000 which is pretty good compared to a typical 6m RIB (~£12000).

The hull as made came with two crude seating blocks and a console molded in.  The sides are also molded in making for more strength and better buoyancy performance in heavy weather.

Overall the hull is 5.18m long and 1.8m wide.

We added a steering set, a borrowed (thanks Andy) Mariner 60HP 2 stroke, hatches on the seat and console. We mounted a small chartplotter and fishfinder on top of the console. and put a DSC radio cutout in the front. Radio antenna was mounted on the stern but we plan to add an A frame at the stern for a higher mounting point later on.
A ladder was made from aluminium scaffold pole and mounted at the forward section on the port side with the aim being that the extra weight of the coxn and console on the starboard would balance out the roll caused by divers climbing in via the ladder.

After putting a low pitch, large diameter prop on, we got a boat that can plane at 10 knots, runs happily with 6 divers and full kit up to 20knots. We have two 25L fuel tanks giving a good range of more than 30nm.

As of July 2010 we’ve use the boat on four weekends with dives on the Blackhawk, Aeolian Sky, Kyarra and more.
