Various pictures from our 2006 diving trips around the UK and abroad.
Here are some photos from our 2002 diving trip to Lundy Island, off the North Devon coast.
On this trip, we were diving from an 8m Starfish.
The event was attended by the BSAC National Diving Officer, Lizzie Bird and the Lord Mayor of Oxford, Pat Stannard who performed the opening ceremony along with the Oxford BSAC Chairman Richard Johnson.
One aspect of the diving club when I joined was the awe in which Mick Phipps was held as Chairman. I have found that it is a very real part of English (maybe British) life that the man in the street often is a member of some club or other. It seems to be in his make up to give far more loyalty, faith, following, deep attention, to that pastime or club that any other aspect of his life (almost).
I’m planning (weather-permitting) to run a survey dive on the Alex on the weekend of the 3rd & 4th December. Plan is to use the ‘new’ RIB out of Casteltown to shuttle to the dive site.
Congratulations to Corin, Emma, Grace and Fidelma who have all passed their Basic Snorkel Diver course in the last few weeks.
On Thursday 28th July the Royal Navy came to visit us at Oxford BSAC to give us a talk on what the Navy do.
The evening consisted of a fast action film presentation intermingled with facts and figures given by 4 members of the Royal Navy and Marines. It was very interesting and I think we all learnt a lot about the Navy by the end of the evening.
Oxford BSAC is lucky enough to have a clubhouse which is used for lectures, pre-dive meetings, social nights and equipment storage including our own compressor, but the clubhouse costs us quite a bit to rent each year.
