Three intrepid divers plumbed the not very icy (7°C) depths (2.5m) of Hinksey Lake on New Years Day 2016. Steve Litchfield, Andy Pickering & Howard Thomas completed a 30 minute dive in the fairly gloomy waters of the lake from the entry point next to the pontoons, over to the bridge and back.

Taster Sessions for Scouts Planned for Autumn & Winter
Oxford Branch has reserved a number of evenings in the next few months for Scouts in the Oxfordshire area to come and try Scuba Diving.
These “mini Try-a-Dive” sessions allow Scouts to have a go with Scuba equipment in our pool with an instructor. Rather than the usual price, as these are mini sessions, the price is reduced to £10 per person. Numbers are limited to 12 scouts per evening.
If you are interested in attending, then please get in touch with our Try-a-Dive Co-ordinator. All dates are Friday Evenings and are based at our training pool at Radley College.

We only dived one day, but the weather was fine and I hope an enjoyable day was had by all.
Only managed to dive on two wrecks, the first, which was new to the branch was the SS Treveal, which hit the Kimmeridge Ledges and sank just outside Chapmans Pool. As described, there is little left of this wreck, but a few people found the deck plates and some of the remaining structure.

The second dive was one of our favorites, the Black Hawk in Warbarrow Bay, where the visibility was slightly better, the current was reduced and there are larger chunks of wreckage to be explored.

One of this year’s week long expeditions is in the English Riviera from the Saturday 27th July to Sunday 4th August.

Our dives are open to all members of Oxford BSAC and also to members of other branches of BSAC and you are most welcome to come along and dive with us.
